The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

The Subtle Art of Being a Designer at a Massive Company

3M’s global head of design Eric Quint on translating the empathy you have for customers to your colleagues.

By Sean Blanda

Judging by articles on design blogs, it’s easy to think that every designer works for a boutique agency or a clever just-announced startup (likely with a homepage that features large stock art with a few bold words over it).

Consumer-facing web apps and Kickstarter-backed manufacturing projects garner attention but there’s an entire sector of the creative economy that is too-often ignored when discussing the creative process.

Some of the most adventurous and daring acts of creativity happen as the result of a combined effort from massive global teams in huge companies. To be able to push creative ideas through layers of bureaucracy, internal politics, and across national borders is a skill in itself, and it’s what Eric Quint spends every waking hour of his working life thinking about.

Borrow from Us
Crafts Council lends objects to museums, galleries, hospitals, universities, heritage buildings and corporate venues for anything from 24 hours to a year. Knowsley Culture Development & Events Service, for example, are borrowing the objects you see below for ‘Crafted’, a biennial multi-site contemporary craft & design exhibition taking place in the summer of 2016. We have worked with the curator to make a wide-ranging selection of craft disciplines, which include a number of makers from or based in the North West, to be shown at Kirkby Gallery. Read more about how you too could borrow from our collection. http://collections.craftscouncil.org.uk/group/PRO2320

Amy Tavern: Trunk Show
Friday June 17, 5-8 pm

Don’t miss this special event!

“During the simple act of walking, I acutely observe my surroundings, take pictures, and form thoughts. Intuitive responses to my experiences follow, articulated through marks, repetition, accumulation, and layering. Using a variety of techniques, I respond to what I see through my work, designing and combining forms to represent my memories of places and their details.

The work presented in this trunk show includes new jewelry about place alongside pieces from my constant collections: Line Drawings, Borderlines, and Regal Graffiti.”
