The American Craft Council is still accepting applications to its emerging artist Hip Pop Program until November 14 for the 2017 Baltimore and Atlanta Shows.

I participated in the Hip Pop program in 2015. I sat out 2016 for personal reasons, but I'm excited to be back in the mix for 2017. This is the ACC's effort to make their shows more accessible for emerging artists who either don't have the financial means or who just aren't ready to make that commitment to applying for a larger booth space. It's an incubator program, spending 3 years in the Hip Pop Program will guarantee you a full size space, without having to go through the jurying process again. The downside is you do get a fraction of the space, but it's also at a fraction of the price.

As a Hip Pop artist, you receive a ton of support from the ACC. They set you up with a mentor, a veteran of the show circuit, if you'd like. If you'd like to "graduate" early into a full sized booth, they help you achieve that. My favorite thing about the program is that they provide your booth for you. It's industrial cardboard, kind of funky, and totally customizable. Just the fact that I don't have to devote hours to building a display, or tons of money renting pipe and drape, and then worry about hauling it to shows, for me, is huge. I'm not ready to make those kinds of commitments, so for me, Hip Pop was a perfect way to test those waters.

If you're at all interested in doing larger shows, I highly encourage you to try Hip Pop. It's for makers of all media, so you'll get to meet some awesome people. I know of several other SNAG members, in addition to myself that have participated in and been successful with this program.

You can get more information on Hip Pop here. Hope to see you in Baltimore!
