The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

OPEN CALL FOR WRITING RELATED TO CONTEMPORARY JEWELRY
International Platform Now Accepting Writing Proposals for Its Website

Monday, December 5, 2016, Mill Valley, California: Art Jewelry Forum (AJF) is pleased to announce the submission process for article and review proposals related to topics concerning contemporary jewelry is now open.

AJF is the world's foremost platform for critical thinking about art jewelry. Our website is a publicly accessible archive of articles, reviews, and interviews about the dynamic field of contemporary jewelry. The website is visited by tens of thousands of people curious about how jewelry relates to the wider art and cultural spheres.

At AJF, we focus on the intimate objects of personal adornment--from heirloom jewelry that evokes nostalgia to political statement pieces that demand action, from explorations of the deep meaning held in a simple wedding band to the celebration of beauty in a finely crafted object. AJF works to provide a platform to understand a jewelry artist's creative intentions while encouraging collectors and enthusiasts to understand the larger picture as they connect to their interest in art jewelry.

We are opening the submission process for articles and reviews to broaden the scope of engagement within our chosen focus--art jewelry. If you are an art writer, art historian, or academic interested in the many facets of adornment, we want to hear from you. Pitch us your ideas by sending a short description (200 words or less) of your concept, or an abstract of a finished piece. Tell us what you've been thinking about, loosely related to all things jewelry.

The submission application will remain open year round. However, the editorial advisory committee meets four times a year to select future content for publication on our site. To be reviewed, submit ideas by these dates:

December 12, 2016
March 1
June 1
September 1
December 1

Details related to the submission process--including website standards, expectations, compensation, and the submission form--can be found on www.artjewelryforum.org.

The Deutsche Bank Awards for Creative Enterprise (DBACE) offers final year arts students and first year graduates the chance to win £10,000 to invest in their creative ideas and kick-start their career.
Applications for DBACE open on Monday, January 16, 2017. To apply, students need to submit a DBACE plan - a project/business plan that outlines their creative project.

Why encourage students to apply?
With 50% of the creative workforce self-employed, graduates need to know how to both value their work and gain support - which is where DBACE comes in. Applying for the Award provides students with a platform to turn their ideas into a plan and pitch for investment. And if they win, they'll get the crucial funding and profile they need to launch their project.

How can you help your students win an Award?
To increase your university's chances of having a winning student, follow these action points:

Promote the Award - Share information with other tutors, print out posters/flyers, and share our new film with your students
Deliver a presentation - download and deliver our DBACE presentation aimed at students
Host a previous winner - invite a previous DBACE winner to speak to your students. Simply email us at the address below
Share online resources - our new Guide to Writing a DBACE plan is available to support students as they prepare their application
Offer feedback - offer one-to-ones to potential applicants, supporting them through the process
Keep in touch -  Sign-up to our next hour-long webinar for universities on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 - 11am. We'll take you through what we're looking for in a winning application, and answer any questions you have.
You can also get in touch with the DBACE team at info@dbace.uk.com

Please make your students aware of this fantastic opportunity that could kick-start their creative careers. Thank you for your support.
Best wishes,
The DBACE team
