Dave & Patti Hegland - The Perfect Fusion of Collaboration and Glass

If Frank Lloyd Wright made ribbon candy it might have looked something like the art glass made by Dave and Patti Hegland. This is exquisite glass work. The Heglands’ glass art incorporates hundreds of multi-layered hand-pulled murrine (colored patterns or images made in a glass “cane”). Polymer clay artists, does this sound a bit familiar?. The murine are individually placed within thin strips of clear, transparent or opaque glass placed on edge. The result has an impressive visual effect when combined with a focused light source. The clear glass becomes the negative space. The Heglands’ discipline and well-honed technical skills are the foundations for their current design direction. Their work is an excellent example of learning the rules of a medium and using that well-earned knowledge to get outside your creative self.
