The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

Making Little Craft is the vision of Junko Mori and John Egan.

"We want to create a space for craft: the local community, its' makers and their talent all to be celebrated."

LOEWE Craft Prize 2nd edition - Submissions now open

In 2016, the LOEWE FOUNDATION launched the international annual LOEWE Craft Prize to showcase and celebrate newness, excellence and artistic merit in modern craftsmanship. Aiming to acknowledge the importance of craft in today’s culture and recognise artisans whose talent, vision and will to innovate will set a standard for the future, LOEWE Creative Director Jonathan Anderson conceived the initiative inspired by LOEWE’s beginnings as a craft cooperative in 1846. ‘Craft is the essence of LOEWE. As a house, we are about craft in the purest sense of the word. That is where our modernity lies, and it will always be relevant,’ Anderson has stated.

German wood artist Ernst Gamperl was selected as the winner of the 2017 edition among 26 finalists from close to 4,000 submissions representing over 75 countries on five continents. Listen to him sharing his experience and advice.

The rapid decline of arts subjects and corresponding growth of the core English Baccalaureate (EBacc) subjects in schools has continued into 2017. Detailed analysis of Government figures reveals that entries into GCSE arts subjects fell by a further 46,000 last year.

This constitutes a 9% drop over the past 12 months, and is consistent with a collapse in take-up across all non-EBacc subjects, which have fallen by 148,000 entries (11%).

This analysis supports widely held fears, including among teachers, that the EBacc is squeezing the arts out of schools. It also substantiates evidence gathered from a stream of earlier research, and consolidates the view that that evidence to the contrary is limited or misleading.

Don't miss Dauvit Alexander, aka the 'Justified Sinner', talking about his amazing narrative jewellery using found objects, THIS WEDNESDAY 21st JUNE at the Goldsmiths' Centre, London.

Multi-skilled jeweller Dauvit Alexander scavenges old warehouses, scrapheaps and disused airfields for interesting abandoned objects. He uses these in narrative pieces of jewellery, often incorporating castings, precious metals and set gemstones to tell stories. He’ll explain with slides his approach to design and making, and show examples from others working in a similar vein.

Tickets are £10 and include the talk and a glass of wine, as well as a chance to see the ACJ's 20:20 Visions exhibition featuring over one hundred pieces of some of the best jewellery from some of the best makers.

Book online now for 'Found Objects: 20:20 Visions Celebrating 20 years of the ACJ': Goldsmiths' Centre

Art Jewelry Forum is planning a trip to Paris, France from October 12-15, 2017.

While Paris isn't known as a big art jewelry destination--at least not for the kind of jewelry we love--this year there are some intriguing events that might be especially engaging to you as an art jewelry lover. Plus, of course, Paris is beautiful at any time, for any reason.

Find out more information and reserve your seat here.

We hope you enjoy the possibilities for learning, travel, and fellowship that are at the core of our mission. Remember to register by June 15, 2017 to reserve your seat.

With warm regards,
