The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

Open Day: Slime

Date: Saturday 24th March
Time: 1-5pm
Location: Institute of Making, Malet Place, UCL, London, WC1E 7JE Map
It's free, open to all, no bookings, just drop in from 1pm. Gates close at 5pm.

Join us for an extravaganza of materials and making around the theme of SLIME.
For one day only, the Institute will be transformed into a state-of-the-art slime lab, with ingredients and accessories to allow everyone to make the slime of their dreams. Once mixed and styled, test your new precious sample at our Slime Olympics; could yours be the stickiest, slipperiest or stringiest slime of them all? We will provide a purpose-built arena and measuring equipment to test any slime made on the day, or brought from home if you are an avid slime maker.

We are delighted to be hosting the exhibition Hidden Treasures, revealing the skills of the Fellows of the Institute of Professional Goldsmiths (IPG), opening on 6th April 2018 at the Goldsmiths’ Centre.

Here at the Goldsmiths’ Centre, our team and the IPG want to make you and your students aware of this fantastic exhibition and the accompanying event aimed at students Hidden Treasures: Surgery with the Fellows on 2nd May 2018 from 6pm – 8.30pm.

This event will enable you or your students to ask burning manufacturing questions, as part of a relaxed round table debate, to seven established craftspeople, all Fellows of the IPG. The panel of experts and their chosen specialisms include:

  • Darren Sherwood of D Sherwood Design Ltd – Computer Aided Design (CAD)
  • Steve Wager – Silversmithing
  • Apollonius Nootenboom of Hean Studio Ltd – Casting

We would be most grateful if you could pass on the event information to your students, so they can be a part of this unique evening, and please do get in touch if you have any questions or require social media or e-newsletter content for your marketing team.

Best wishes,

After years of practicing traditional silver work, Lisa Cain established her own jewellery school offering workshops in a variety of techniques, including contemporary silver clay work. Most of Lisa’s own jewellery work is inspired by imaginary folklore, myths and legends. She is passionate about fostering and encouraging creativity in others through her jewellery courses.
