The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

Jewellery by Stööki. We talk to Nadia, Luke and Bosola about how they are inspired by the raw energy of London's youth culture and working towards a more transparent and open jewellery industry in our latest What’s Your Craft film.

This is a call to open your diaries and save the date for Materials Research Exchange 2020 (MRE2020) which will be taking place 18th – 20th February at the Business Design Centre in London. MRE2020, organised by the Knowledge Transfer Network and Innovate UK, will demonstrate how the UK is a global hub of excellence in materials research, as well as how materials is an area which will continue to propel the nation’s economy to future success.

n our blog we caught up with contemporary jeweller Carol Hunt: "For me jewellery is a form of self-expression and I am essentially exploring the complexities of life. There are particular memories and experiences that I often come back to, but I’m not trying to ‘make’ those, it’s more about saying something on the contradictions and complexities of life that we all experience. That’s why I often play with contrasts such as light/dark, strength/delicacy etc in my work. I hope that this means that the wearer can decide what the piece means to them." Katherine Richmond's jewellery combines the luxury of precious metals with something altogether more ephemeral – the pages of salvaged, vintage books. Worn colours and embossed patterns from book covers are preserved and celebrated with the addition of oxidised silver. Beautiful gifts for a book lover...
