The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

Make Your Future campaign

Pledge your support

Our vision is that every child has a chance to discover their practical abilities, develop their creative talents, and become a maker of the future. This vision is rooted in the knowledge that craft skills lead to diverse careers and creative satisfaction throughout life.

Recent governments have failed to change its education policy to make craft and other creative subjects a vital part of the curriculum. So, we are asking the craft community, leading figures from the creative industries and the craft-loving public to take matters into their own hands and pledge a commitment to give young people an introduction to craft.

We need you to pledge your support for craft education using the form below and on social media using #makeyourfuture. It can be big or small— from setting up a Craft Club at your school to offering a day’s work experience in your studio. By doing just a little bit extra, we can build a movement to support the makers of the future.

Designers Tatty Devine have been the first to make their pledge. They have created a new Make Your Future jewellery range and £1 of every sale will go to supporting the Crafts Council's education programmes!

Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre is looking for three Trustees to join our enthusiastic and dedicated Board of Trustees in December 2019.

The Board is made up of nine Trustees appointed by the Grange, and five appointed by the Borough and Community Councils.

We meet quarterly as a Board plus one AGM, with staff and Trustees meeting throughout the year to focus on specific activities or topics.

Our vision is to present the best Applied Arts work being made in Wales, and to bring to Wales some of the most important and interesting work being produced nationally and internationally.

We aim to do this by delivering a programme of education, participation and engagement activities that are relevant to the lives of our communities.

We are particularly looking for Trustees who have knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • artists and makers whose practice is aligned with the Grange’s Mission and Vision,
  • fundraising
  • retail / commercial operation
  • catering
  • capital development

New Perspectives

We are determined to welcome new voices from diverse backgrounds onto our Board. We want to ensure our Trustees reflect and represent all our diverse communities, be that through their race, gender, sexuality, age, language, ethnic / national origins, religion or belief, disability, financial status, or in where they live.

We welcome applications from people who have:

  • A commitment to LGAC and its work
  • A willingness to devote time and expertise
  • Good, independent judgement
  • The ability to think creatively and share ideas
  • A willingness to speak their mind
  • Understood and accepted the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship
  • The ability to respect confidences
  • The ability to work effectively as a member of a team
  • A commitment to adhering to the Nolan Committee’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.

Covent Garden on the 19th to 21st October 2019.

The event will feature

live jewellery making demonstrations from 30 of the world’s leading independent designers, including Nadia Minkoff, Mishanto London & SVP Jewellery.

We’re giving jewellery lovers the chance to meet the maker behind their designs, and boycott the damaging effects of the mass-produced and depersonalised high-street.

We would love to invite your members to this event. It’s a great opportunity to discuss jewellery making, and the transition from hobby to profession. You can chat to our independent designers about their unwavering motivation to change the world through the medium of jewellery.

I am also writing to extend an exclusive invitation to our prosecco Sip and Shop event, taking place as part of our pop-up weekend. This is on Saturday 19th from 5-7:30pm. It would be lovely to see you there.

New Hallmarking Dealer's Notice To Be Introduced
The Dealer’s Notice, which must be displayed by all dealers supplying precious metal jewellery, is being updated to include two new marks, in a version that will be compulsory from 1 May 2020.
The updated version incorporates:

A new differentiated hallmark for articles hallmarked outside of the UK by Birmingham Assay Office
A new type 2 standardised CCM mark.
Read more and download your copy from our website. Remember that is is a legal requirement of the Hallmarking Act 1973 for all dealers supplying precious metal jewellery (or other items made of precious metal) to display this notice.
