Between a Rock and a Hard Place

with Michael Boyd

April 9-13, 2012 from 9 am - 5 pm

$999 + kit

Discover new ways to incorporate traditional and alternative materials into your work by exploring various types of settings and attachments. Build the perfect bezel and explore all the alternative ways to use, set, and integrate your favorite materials into your work. Manipulate and alter hard materials such as stone and glass at your bench and innovate, invent, and fabricate new ways to set them. Explore ways to preserve fragile materials and metal surfaces using powder coating, laminates, and barriers. With a heavy focus on basic design elements and principles learn how to assimilate non-metal components into your work. Prerequisite: Fabrication 2 or experience.

This class is being offered in place of Imaginative Captures with Andy Cooperman.
Andy Cooperman will teach Surfaces, April 14-15, 2012.

Michael Boyd will also teach Stone & Metal, April 16-20, 2012 and Gem Carving, April 21-22, 2012.

Michael Boyd is an artist whose jewelry embodies his creative spirit with a freedom and spontaneity that few art jewelers possess. Equally adept at both masterful lapidary work and intricate goldsmithing, Michael's work constantly evolves into new levels of ingenuity, originality and complexity.

Trained formally in painting and ceramics, Michael developed his sense of design, color and form at an early age. Although largely self-taught as a jeweler, with his in-depth knowledge of materials he transforms stone and metal into an unlimited palette of color, texture and pattern, creating wearable sculptures which are as engaging for the wearer as they are for the viewer.
