“Message: Beyond Adornment”

info@jsnfarnham.com http://jewellersandsilversmiths.wordpress.com/
PRESS RELEASE
Exhibition Announcement and Call for Your Readers Help and Participation

The Farnham based Jewellers and Silversmiths Network (JSN) have challenged themselves to design, make and exhibit a collection of works in response to the theme of:
“Message: Beyond Adornment”
The members of the JSN will be exploring creative boundaries and interpreting the theme in its broadest sense developing ideas including environmental, philosophical, social and personal in a variety of media.
The exhibition will run from 27th April 2014 – 7th June 2014 at The New Ashgate Gallery, Waggon Yard, Farnham, Surrey GU9 7PS

THE JSN NEEDS YOU AND YOUR READERS TO PARTICIPATE
One of the displays will be a collection of work sent in by anyone who would like to join in be they professional, or amateur, young
or old. It will look at how we can try to take control of images of ourselves, a topical theme given the prevalence of social media sites and the speed with which our image can be spread across the internet
JSN Member Poppy Porter says; “ we are keen to involve as wide an audience as possible with this exhibition and engage with people beyond a passive viewing experience. Get involved make a necklace.”
THE BRIEF: Design and make a piece of revisable neckwear that says “I Agree” on one side and “I Disagree” on the other. This allows the wearer to physically attempt to send a message about whether they want their photo taken or not. “I Agree” and “I Disagree” is the terminology commonly used in computer software user agreements. You can use any materials you like in any style. There is only one proviso – it is a swap, you will not get your own necklace back but you will get someone else’s. Do not use precious materials unless you are willing to give them away – if you make a necklace out of diamonds be aware you may get one back made out of wool.
Submissions must be received by March 24th 2014
Send to : Rebecca Skeels, Jewellery and Metalwork, University for the Creative Arts, Falkner Road, Farnham, Surrey GU9 7DS
Including an SAE with postage to cover the return of a necklace.
NOTES TO EDITOR:
• "The Jewellers and Silversmiths Network is a group run by and for its members with the aim of strengthening links with other makers in the local area around Farnham, Surrey. We meet regularly at the Maltings, Farnham to exchange useful information and explore new skills. We also exhibit together as a group, presenting our work to as wide a range of people as possible. As members of the group, we are able to take advantage of, and create, collaborative opportunities that would not be available to us as individuals."

Hi everyone!  This group has been mighty quiet!  I just wanted to point out that Holly Gage has opened the Call for Entries for her annual calendar - details are below!  Hope to see TONS of your gorgeous work submitted - y'all are amazing! :-)

(The official details are too long to post on the wall so I've added it as an attachment.  Let me know if you can't see it and want me to e-mail it to you.)
