Susana Bettencourt graduated in BA Fashion Knitwear Honours at the prestige's Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London.

The Designer was part of the finalist for the Portuguese Young Creator 2008 with the collection Tempus Morphose. She was an intern for 2 collections (AW08, SS09) at Alexandra Moura, doing at the same time a jewelry course with acrylic and resin at Contacto Directo (Lisbon). At the beginning of that same year Bettencourt was part of an exhibition of Janela Urbana at Yron Galley with a handmade accessories collection, "My Tangram".

In 2007 she was at Treads & More (Australia) being part of the designers panel and a year before she develop a merchandising project at Fátima Lopes. With a Fashion Folio Course at CSM, that helped her make the jump from Portugal to the UK, and a Sewing and pattern course where she first purified her skills.

Currently Bettencourt is on the MA Digital Fashion at the London College of Fashion which will give her experience with the new software from the computerized knitting machines to 3D projects and pattern cutting. At the moment the acrylic jewelry collection is in progress to be in the stores the next few months.

Sinopse Tangram

This jewellery collection is based on the ancient Chinese Tangram puzzle. Tangram is a learning tool that combines artistic and mathematical elements to enhance visual perception ability; develop problem solving skills; creative thinking capacity and teamwork.

Traditional tangrams were made from stone, bone, clay or other easy to get materials. Nowadays they can be made from plastic, wood or other modern materials.
For this pieces I used my knitting and crochet techniques to manipulate wire and beads. The rest of the composition of the necklaces was created with fimo, mirrors, silver sheets and chains.

Welcome to crafthaus, the network for artists and fine craftsmen/women ! I am very glad you joined us !

Please add your thoughts to the blogs and discussion forums that are already posted. Of course, if there is something else you'd much rather talk about, please add that to the site so that the rest of us can chime in.

I really hope you will enjoy being with this network, and will find the exchanges interesting and fun. The more you put into it, the more you will get out of it, for sure.

Please note that crafthaus is both a fully edited and a member-financed website, meaning that a small annual fee ($20/yr or $35/2yrs) is involved in being a member here. You will find all the necessary information on how to go about this in the FAQs section of the site. Your membership fee is due on or before February 15, 2010 and is payable through paypal (preferred,) US check or credit card.

All images sent to the website will be reviewed to assure some measure of overall quality control. Crafthaus is not a "free-for-all". Members present their work in front of an educated and critical audience (their peers,) so the images have to be GREAT in both content and photo quality. From the many images received daily, we try to post as many as possible.

Crafthaus does not support any kind of commercial solicitation of our membership. Anyone sending out communication of that kind will be suspended from the site.

Finally, if there are ever any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to email me via crafthauseditor@live.com anytime. I will do my best to be of help.

Again: Welcome and enjoy !
