High Relief Eastern Repoussé
Instructor: Victoria Lansford
October 8-9, 2011
10am – 5pm
Learn the high relief hammered techniques of chasing and repoussé, used by the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Celts, and which is little known in the West. Participants will create at least 2 pieces suitable for pins or pendants while learning the secrets of achieving exquisite detail and unsurpassed depth and height.
No tool making required! Victoria will provide sets of tools for use during the workshop. She will also provide information on tool making for students interested in making their own tools and stamps, but the majority of class time will be devoted to doing repoussé.
Victoria’s work in this technique has been featured in many books and magazines, including Metalsmith, Jewelry Artist, Nancy Megan Corwin’s Chasing & Repoussé, and as the latest DVD in the series: “Metal Techniques of Bronze Age Masters”.

Internationally acclaimed artist, educator, author and publisher Victoria Lansford creates one-of-a-kind wearable pieces of art and art objects that evoke the mystery and splendor of ancient masters, yet are infused with her own provocative vision. She has pushed the boundaries of design and execution in many old world techniques, including high relief Eastern repoussé, Russian filigree, chain making, and granulation in over 20 years of comprehensive exploration of metal as art.
