Event Description

Learn how to use the Hydraulic Press. Create original dies, embossed plates and other uses with the leverage of 20 tons. Students will make at least one acrylic matrix die cut out from their own design, experiment with how the press works along with their own design inclinations, including soldering two matrix die halves together to create a hollow form. We will explore a variety of uses with the matrix die such as roller printed and fold formed designs. Students will also learn to emboss or imprint metal with a variety of shapes using anything from washers and heavy gauge wire to mesh or found steel objects.
The studio is located in the historical Sawtooth building in Berkeley, CA where 30+ other artists work in various mediums.
Tool list will be supplied, kit and some materials are included. Maximum eight students. Enroll now. Credit cards and checks accepted. Fifty percent reserves your space, full payment by March 1st.
Class fee: $250 (includes kit)
