The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

The Goldsmiths Craft & Design Council have two design challenges, the closing date is 31st May.

Here are the details from GCDC:

In an effort to keep our community designing, creating and sharing, we have partnered with our Patrons & Sponsors to launch two mini 2D design challenges for jewellers and silversmiths respectively.

These challenges are in keeping with the spirit of our annual competition, but with the aim of engaging our creative community in a brief, light-hearted and focussed challenge with some exciting prizes to be won! The submission deadline for both 2D design challenges is midnight on Sunday 31 May 2020.

·      Love in Lockdown – 2D Jewellery Design Project in collaboration with Special Patron, Brown & Newirth

·      Reunion – 2D Silversmithing Design Project in collaboration with Patron, Champagne Gosset & Sponsor, a silversmithing Sponsor

We are very encouraged by the community engagement we have had so far and hope that these challenges will allow us to continue spreading our mission of promoting creativity, design and excellence in our industries as we transition into to a new way of working.

Open call for makers and creative practitioners

Are you a maker, designer or artist, perhaps you are a writer with a passion for storytelling or a creative practitioner with an interest in heritage?

During the lockdown, we want to continue to support the arts community. We are looking to hear from creative practitioners with potential designs and ideas inspired by our building and its history. We are particularly interested in hearing from makers with a view to developing an exclusive Hive product range for future retail and online sales.

Working closely with The Hive, the successful artist(s) will be offered an initial commission of £500 to develop their design idea or prototype.

What we are looking for

  • Exceptional craftmanship
  • Interpretation of the building, it’s history or location
  • Commercial and retail potential at an entry-level price point

How to apply

Please send a short expression of interest and a little about you and your practice, no more than 500 words, a current CV and any links to your website or digital portfolio you would like us to consider. We also welcome applications via alternative methods, such as video and audio. We encourage applications from currently under-represented groups in craft and heritage industries.

Please get in touch if you would like to discuss access to our archives to develop your idea. All enquiries and submissions to Naomi.Clarke@rmlt.org.uk

Deadline: 24th May 2020

We will not meet during the SILVER Legnica Festival, which

programme is rescheduled for next year.

We are sorry that months of efforts and work cannot be culminated with remarkable exhibitions. That this year this place will be empty, quiet, and we won't be able to watch, admire, learn, share and reward silver art.

This year our Festival lost to the pandemic, and we have prepared Silver On-line instead. 8th to 10th of May for a whole month. Therefore, in this difficult time, we would like to transfer into the web. We prepared many attractions in our social media and websites. https://www.facebook.com/legnickifestiwal.srebro.1

and http://galeria.legnica.eu/silver-online/

Share your reflections, present how you creatively spend time at home, upload your photos and recordings to the event on Facebook – Silver On!line https://www.facebook.com/events/164269345002274/.

We would also like to remind you that the 29th Legnica International Jewellery Competition STILL

HUMAN? and an award gala will take place during the Legnica SILVER Festival in May 2021. Deadline

for submitting works is May 31, 2020. For more details, check our website:

Argex: Are now open, with slightly delayed posting. They are a good supplier of sheet, wire, discs etc. The easiest way to place your order is by phone. http://www.argex.co.uk/index.php
