The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

The Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair has a new home at Manchester's iconic Victoria Baths.

Victoria Baths is one of the city's favourite heritage attractions, containing a range of dramatic and unique spaces. It hosts many arts and cultural events and is also a popular film location, most recently for Peaky Blinders.

Designed to be the grandest baths in Britain when they opened in 1906, the decorative tiled interiors of this Grade II listed Edwardian landmark will provide a perfect backdrop for Contemporary Craft.

SAVE THE DATE! : GNCCF Manchester ‪8-11 October 2020, Victoria Baths‬

If you are a maker, or know someone who is, applications are now open for all three of our 2020 events, which alongside Manchester, includes GNCCF Sheffield at Millennium Gallery and our NEW show at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead.

Apply now to exhibit – Deadline 8th March

Craft participation falls slightly

Craft participation (everyday making) has fallen very slightly over the last year (24% to 23%) in contrast to growth over the previous 3 years. The only areas where there are increases in participation are amongst 65-74 year-olds and people with a long-term illness or disability. The Crafts Council commissions these figures each year from DCMS (see the 5th set of data in the link).

Open Studios May 2020
16th and 17th May, 11am - 4pm
The countdown has begun for the first of our twice-yearly Open Studios events.
On May 16th and 17th, our professional makers will open their studios to the general public, and they are looking forward to chatting with visitors about their work and latest projects.
You will be able to buy or commission pieces, and also enjoy a pop-up craft fair by SHOPCreative.
Put the dates in your diary now and we look forward to seeing you for a creative weekend. https://www.shopcreativeuk.co.uk/?utm_source=hs_email&utm_mediu...

This Spring we say a fond farewell to two of our resident makers, who are both moving on to bigger and better things. Francis Campbell will be working on a major Netflix series while fashion designer Liam Davis heads off to London, the heart of the nation's fashion scene.
This means we have two studio vacancies, so if you want to take the next step in your creative career, these start-up spaces are the ideal base for your progression. Tenants have 24/7 access to their own professional studio space, as well as the benefits of being amongst creatives and receiving the support and guidance from the Making Space team.
If you would like to find out more and apply for one of the studios, head over to our website and see what having your own studio can do for your business. https://makingspace.org/rent-studio-space/?utm_source=hs_email&...
