The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

Free Craft Workshops
Making Space has been awarded a grant from Arts Council England for a new Community Engagement project.
This will allow us to offer a series of free craft workshops to community groups in Leigh Park over the next four months.
The workshops will be available in a variety of craft forms, and can be held either at Making Space or at your own venue.
We will be contacting community groups, schools and local charities with this offer very soon, but if you are involved in a community organisation and would like to be a part of this exciting project, please get in touch with Nathan Chapman at admin@makingspace.org to find out more. https://makingspace.org/

On the 15 June 2020 Make Your Mark will be returning to Goldsmiths’ Hall.

The event remains the UK’s biggest careers event for apprentices, students and graduates of jewellery and allied trades. Since its launch in 2014, Make Your Mark has proved a huge success and promises to deliver even more educational advice and networking opportunities. https://www.assayofficelondon.co.uk/events/make-your-mark-2020

The Goldsmiths' Company Strategy - Protecting Consumers

The Goldsmiths’ Company is a membership organisation that has contributed to national life for nearly 700 years. In this time, the Goldsmiths’ Company Assay Office has been responsible for protecting consumers by testing and hallmarking precious metals.

Our commitment to protecting consumers has been set out in the new Company Strategy, which outlines our vision for the years leading up to 2027 – the 700th anniversary of the granting of the Company’s first Royal Charter. https://www.thegoldsmiths.co.uk/company/today/company-strategy/

Goldsmiths’ Company’s - This month we were excited to launch our Customer Benefits Programme - a series of free tours, talks, workshops and demonstrations to provide expert advice exclusively to our customers.

The programme kicked off with a tour of the Goldsmiths’ Company’s Collection.

Charles Spurrier, Silver Steward, showed the lucky group of customers some of the Company's most spectacular pieces. This included the 1493 Cup, shown here. It is the earliest hallmarked item in the Collection and one of the earliest pieces of fully marked secular plate. It was found in the roof of St Andrew’s Church, Middleton, Yorkshire, and purchased by the Company in 1976.

We were thrilled to welcome our customers to the Hall and can’t wait to see more of you throughout the year!
