is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

New Premises Appeal from The Old Fire Station Creative Studios

The Farnham Maltings has successfully supported a group of Art and Craft Practitioners at The Old Fire Station Studios, Godalming for a number of years and the studio is now a vibrant space from which many New Businesses have grown and flourished.

The Fire Station has also been a vital resource for the community of Godalming providing a much needed arts hub and workshop facility.

Sadly the Building is County Council owned and they have decided to sell the property for re-development in early 2013, which leaves the artists in residence looking for a new home.

All the Artists concerned now wish to create a creative space within new premises and work towards making an Artist Co-operative where they can support each other.

Currently they are asking for help in the form of any offers of Rentable property and will consider many different usage buildings such as industrial and Farm out buildings of any size, the only constraints are reasonable budget limitations.

If you think you can help or if you need studio space yourself please also get in touch.

Please contact either Charlie Rickett at charlie@charlierickett.com or Gina McAdam at gina@whatsinthebox.co.uk

Transplantation
A Sense of Place and Culture
An exhibition of narrative contemporary jewellery

8 January – 2 March 2013
Exhibition at the Crafts Study Centre
University for the Creative Arts, Falkner Road, Farnham, Surrey GU9 7DS

A touring exhibition of contemporary narrative jewellery by artists based in Britain and Australia curated by Professor Norman Cherry, University of Lincoln in conjunction with The National Centre for Craft & Design. Supported by Arts Council England.

Jewellery is art form which records memory and experience in a portable and wearable form. Through jewellery it is possible to express ideas, thoughts, and concerns, which isn’t achievable in any other way. Twelve contemporary jewellery artists from the UK and Australia have been selected to new work which articulates the idea of transplantation.

Even jewellers whose work is not illustrative often have a story to tell. In some cases participants’ existing reputations are already built on narrative and metaphor. Each artist in this exhibition has their own experience of cultural, familial and artistic transplantation of one sort or another.  Each has drawn on those experiences to create work which is powerful, engaging and thought-provoking and which, it is hoped will encourage viewers to reflect seriously on the topic and consider how it relates to themselves.

Artists:
Jivan Astfalck, London
Norman Cherry, Lincoln
Jack Cunningham, Birmingham
Laura Potter, London
Lin Cheung, London
Jo Pond, Derby
Anna Davern, Melbourne
Rosanne Bartley, Melbourne
Joung-Mee Do, Sydney
Nick Bastin, Melbourne
Sheridan Kennedy, Sydney
Bridie Lander, Sydney/Birmingham
