You will lead and manage the Crafts Study Centre and develop its related roles as a fully accredited University museum of modern crafts and as a research centre of the School of 3D Design. Developing the Centre's significant collections and archives for exhibition and study, working closely with the Trustees of the Crafts Study, demonstrating innovation and vision in developing contemporary exhibitions and associated programmes for the benefit of University and public audiences.

You should have significant experience in the museum sector, (including collection development and/ or exhibition activity) as well as substantive experience in research and teaching in the field of modern and contemporary craft or a related area. The Director will have excellent communication skills and a track record of successful fund raising from charitable and University funding streams. The HOTWEEK project is a place for discovery and growth in the artistic fields of contemporary jewellery, object making, metalwork and related media. It is run by students and teachers from the Metalwork and Jewellery Department of the Oslo National Academy of the Arts. The aim of the project  is to involve people from outside of the Academy in the activities of the department.

The tittle for HOTWEEK 2012  is  “Links”. The theme is, of course, only a starting point for the production of work and can be approached conceptually, aesthetically or in any  desired way. We encourage the participants to use any kind of materials and techniques, and to discuss their opinions with our  invited teachers. Our guest teachers are selected amongst the very best in the field and are  well established artists.

HOTWEEK will be held at the new campus of the Oslo National Art Academy. Grand workshops with state-of-the-art machinery and expert technicians provide a structure that supports all kinds of creative activities.

We proudly show the works executed during HOTWEEK in an  exhibited, opening the last day of the workshop.

WEEKEND WORKSHOPS

Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd September 
Exploration of Glass with Kate O’Connell
Ever wanted to try your hand at Fused Glass but not sure where to start?This is the perfect introductory course for you! Spend two days with Kate getting to grips with the idea of fused glass and the kind of thing you can make. Day one will involve experimenting, trying out the different materials and getting used to the tools and techniques. When you return on the Sunday you will be armed with all the knowledge you need to design and make something really special. Basic materials supplied, no experience necessary.
10am – 3pm both days, £95 including most materials.

EVENING COURSES

Casting the Extraordinary (Ceramics)
With Pete Levy, Starts 24 September (10 weeks)
Challenging the idea of form and function... Imagination brought to reality... Following on from the success of Pete’s Exploration of the Teapot course, this 10-week ceramic workshop allows the participant the opportunity to play with casting interesting items to make sculptures or functional objects. Great fun, no experience needed.
Mondays 24 Sept, 1, 8, 15, 22 Oct, 5, 12, 19, 26 Nov, 3 Dec, 6pm – 9pm. £175 including all materials.

Intermediate Silver Jewellery
With Sharon Justice, Starts 25th September (10 weeks)
This intermediate silver jewellery course will involve some tuition but will mainly support students on individual self-lead projects. The cost of the course doesn’t include materials, but materials will be available to purchase through the tutor.

Felt-Making Course
With Hilary Charlesworth, Starts 25th September (5 weeks)
The perfect course for anyone wanting to learn all there is to know about the world of felting. Over 5 sessions you will create flat felt, learn the history, make a purse, a scarf, experiment with needle felting, and make small figurines. Felting is a fun experimental technique in which your creativity can really be unleashed. Understanding Photography
With Tracey McEachran, Starts 27 September (3 weeks)
A 3-week course for those wanting to get to grips with photography. Studio tenant Tracey McEachran will lead 3 sessions concentrating on a different element each week, from improving your photographic skills, learning about the manual setting and expanding your photographic thinking. Please bring your digital camera (with manual setting) to all 3 sessions, and a laptop to the last session.
