I have three stumps I am planning to dry out. They are going to be used in my studio as work surfaces. What is the process for preparing and drying out these stumps.
Glen uses rescued lumber when possible. He air dries the lumber, at least 1" a year, but this also depends on type of wood, thickness... Air drying means that the wood will be exposed to the outdoors under a protective covering to keep dry.
Drying stumps is difficult. The wood will dry from the inside out probably resulting in checks (cracks in the wood) & not a great work surface. There is an expensive way to dry wood involving chemicals.
Some variables are type of wood, thickness of stump. I found this discussion on line that may be helpful
