CALL FOR ENTRY: “Shifting Sites”
Contemporary metalsmithing is a dynamic field, marked by ever-expanding possibilities for the creation and presentation of work. “Shifting Sites,” SNAG’s 2016 Juried Exhibition in Print produced by Metalsmith magazine, will showcase works that explore the changing spaces of jewelry and objects as they are conceived, made, and displayed. Jurors Eva Eisler, Lauren Fensterstock, and Lori Talcott are seeking examples that creatively engage with their environment.
For this “Shifting Sites” issue, the emphasis is on location or place as either subject or actual space for the creation and display of work. The jurors welcome works that expand and explore the “where” of contemporary metalsmithing. As a subject for metalsmithing, “site” can be understood as geography, landscape or cityscape and be revealed in imagery or forms that reference natural settings, architecture, urban or rural spaces. Actual space of a piece can refer to where the idea was realized, the physical location of construction, where it is worn, or where it is displayed or sold.
