ReCollection

These pieces are parts of two series in a collection of work entitled ReCollection. They are the physical result of my research of objects in an American society. Each series are a source for understanding the presence of possessions in our lives and investigates how the meanings of these objects shift with the change of hands. I have chosen to appropriate items of desire disembodied and altered from their original state. This way of working allows me to analyze these objects and propose conversations about them in terms of our identity as individuals and as an American society. The materials I have chosen to use in the creation of this work are linked to the history of the development of a collecting culture. Each material is used as a means of creating a visual mark, recording my thoughts on the subject and encouraging further dialogue. With this work, I intend to question the importance and place that material possessions have in our culture, considering both how and why they are an integral part of our contemporary world. The works of ReCollection create a visual narrative about collection in an American culture
