Its a Nine Men's Morris game. Historians think that it originated somewhere in the middle east around the time that humans started living in villages. It was really popular in Medieval England, and you can find lots of game boards carved into the cloisters of many of the churches in England. I got a lot of inspiration from those churches for the forms. The reason it is on two necklaces is because it is an adversarial game. The necklaces don't have clasps, the length of the necklaces dictate how far apart the players can get, and it's really heavy- so playing it really involves discomfort and invasion of personal space on a few levels.
