Semaphore Rings is a series of six rings based on the design of the nautical semaphore flag system of signalling. They are are made from scrap fabric from the flag-making industry, hand sewn using a technique based on the English Paper Piecing style of patchwork quilting, a technique that was developed in the 1900’s to allow small scraps of valuable and delicate fabric to be sewn together with great accuracy. The rings are made to be worn like a set of flags, allowing the wearer to signal to others who understand the secret code of Art Jewellery. Hidden magnets inside the rings allow them to repel or attract one another, depending on which finger they are placed. When not being worn they can be fitted together to make a variety of sculptural objects that could be worn as a pendant.
