I LOVE the look of glass...but I can't tell you how many times I get asked if my plique-a-jour pieces are resin. So I purchased a buttload ( that's a metalsmithing term) of different kinds of resins...and I am going to experiment with them until I make something that I like. The plan is to make a very detailed chart on what you can and can not use in resin (and pro's and con's)...so when I am finished...I will share..:-) My question to you all is...what is your favorite resins to use and why? I already have my resins picked out...I was just curious..perhaps I forgot a good one. I am going to use:

1. Ice resin

2. Envirotex lite...(I think they have a new jewelry resin out as well)

3. Easy Cast

Here's an interesting tid bit. I am using eutectic solder for these little flowers. The first flower I put in the kiln I was not thinking and put it in a hot kiln that was ramped up to 1515 F. Well, this solder is suppose to melt/flow at 1460 F. The flower was in the kiln for a minute and a half...but when I took it out of the kiln...it was fine. It had not come apart. Perhaps I was just lucky on that one!!:-) Nice to know there is room for error on the soldering flow temp!
Having fun with ceramics. I recently read ...(twice actually, in different publication) that you can be a goldsmith even if you don't use gold. (Art Jewelry magazine, January 2010 issue, page 20) What????????????????????? I recently read ...(twice actually, in different publication) that you can be a goldsmith even if you don't use gold. (Art Jewelry magazine, January 2010 issue, page 20) What????????????????????? That is crazy. I know a silversmith works with large silver pieces...bowls, tea sets and decorative items and so on. Since I only work with gold a bit and silver is a big part of my work... I don't really consider myself a goldsmith.
Also...when I googeled(sp?) it...an on-line dictionary ( goldsmiths.askdefine.com) defined a goldsmith as follows: A goldsmith is a metalworker who specializes in working with gold and other precious metals, usually in modern times to make jewelry. Historically goldsmiths have also made flatware, platters, goblets, decorative and serviceable utensils, and ceremonial or religious items, but the rising prices of precious metals have curtailed the making of such items to a large degree. Goldsmiths must be skilled in forming metal through filing, soldering, sawing, forging, casting, and polishing metal. The reason this is such an important question is because I am spending ample time and energy on re-vamping my business look (branding) and all. I have always put the word "metalsmith" on my cards. So now what do I put on my cards??? What do you do...what do you call yourself? Not really the look I was going for...lots o' time into this baby...tag:crafthaus.ning.com,2009-12-05:2104389:BlogPost:813502009-12-05T06:25:05.000ZAimee A. Anyway...I was hoping for some opinions as to the genre of the music. I am finding it difficult to put it into a category and was hoping you all could help. You can find it on the left side of my page. Thanks,
