Call for Artists: 2017 Elizabeth R. Raphael Founder's Prize

2017 Elizabeth R. Raphael Founder’s Prize competition

Open to all artists working in found materials

Application deadline is June 9, 2017.

The prize was established in 1997 in honor of SCC founder Elizabeth Rockwell Raphael. The $5,000 cash award recognizes excellence in the field of contemporary craft, and is presented in conjunction with a juried exhibition, video, and catalogue. A national tour is planned. The Raphael Prize competition is open to all interested participants and we especially encourage emerging artists to apply.

A six-member panel, including guest jurors Susie Ganch, head of the Metal Program for the Department of Craft and Material Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University and director of Radical Jewelry Makeover; Fabio J.Fernández, executive director at The Society of Arts and Crafts in Boston, MA, will select finalists from the initial submissions, and also select the prize-winning entry.

The jurying process will take place in two sessions. There will be an online review of submissions and follow up discussion on Saturday, August 5, 2017 (tentative date), when we will identify finalists. These 25-30 finalists will be invited to create and submit a work for the final round of judging, which will take place on Saturday, July 21, 2018, (tentative date).
