Call: Workshop with Ruudt Peters - Selfie Now

After the successes over the last 15 years, this year Ruudt Peters begins his summer workshop under the title SELFIE NOW. Peters has been professor at three of the most prestigious universities in Europe, the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam 1990-2000 and Konstfack University of Arts and Crafts in Stockholm 2004-2009. and Alchimia Contemporary Jewellery School in Florence 2009-2015. Through his Summer School he follows up his teaching with a private program intended for students or graduates of art academies, and artists/designers/teachers who seek to deepen their work. Every year an international group of fine art artists and jewelry-makers participate in his workshops. This workshop is held in the countryside in the south of the Netherlands.

SELFIE NOW
Our society has rapidly been changing these last years, everyone is walking with a smart phone and is able to document everything that is happening minute by minute. This offers us the opportunity to create a huge data-bank of images of our selves, which can be used as inspiration for making art and art-jewellery.

In SELFIE NOW we emphasize the awareness of your place as artist/jewelry-maker in the world. SELFIE NOW takes the position between your self and the world. Between the real and cyberspace. In SELFIE NOW we encourage you with your own image and habits and confront you with these firmly into art and art-jewellery making. SELFIE NOW is about strength, where we convert this energy in a positive way in art/jewellery work. In SELFIE NOW we only use natural materials. Materials which are supplied as raw materials from the earth. By treating these materials with respect there arises honor and another sort of form language. A language close to man, and the wearer of jewellery.

In this workshop SELFIE NOW we learn how to look, work and talk. We have to stand for what we are, and what we are making. SELFIE NOW is a workshop where we will discover and explore the power of the maker. We will fine tune and connect with your ‘self image’, guide you on the way to delve deeper into your own visual language and see yourself better.

Together we will search for your own ‘SELF’. This means that you will get in contact with yourself. We will guide you through your primary experience, teach you to formulate your own positions, and support you in translating this into making fine art and art jewellery. SELFIE NOW is about taking another approach at our experience of making, a statement about how you can relate to your own inner force. Artists, students and teachers are stimulated to produce work around this idea. By doing so, it is important that there is not only rational reflection, but also allowing the subconscious to enter into the work process. Each participant, fine-artist or art-jeweler will formulate the frame of reference.

The SELFIE NOW course is built on a step-by-step process of education in which an end product is not the most important goal. The emphasis lies on personal guidance and development. The participants are given the tools with which to continue this process on their own. By means of direct action people learn to take steps.

OPEN CALL  STUDENTS
This year we have started a new initiative an open call for applications especially for students from art-schools, they can apply to attend SELFIE NOW for a reduced price of € 825,-- exclusive 21% VAT tax. There are 4 grants for young art-students and recent graduates who have completed studies in the last two years.  Students who receive the grant will also have to do some supporting work during the workshop.  How to apply? Please send with your application: 1, Letter of recommendation from your professor. 2, Official certificate of registration from your university. 3, statement why you want to follow SELFIE NOW and what you want to learn.

The course ends: Sunday, 28th August 2016, after breakfast.
Departure: Sunday, 28th August 2016, 11.00 hrs.

Accommodations: 2 / 4 person rooms, St. Laurenshoeve, Ravenstein.
Price: Including accommodation, food, drinks, wine, and insurance.
