Interdisciplinary. Community. Advocacy. Humor.
Hi All, we would like to introduce ourselves.
Mother Makers is a new network set up to offer support, advice and opportunities to women who have become mothers and need additional support to return to, maintain or develop their professional artistic practice.
Mother Makers is a network for exchange and dialogue for mothers trying to find their way back into their art/design practice after having children. Mother Makers actively examines the process of art production as a mother with the aim of developing strategies and creating opportunities that are tailored specifically towards the needs of the maker-mother. Because women have a lot of worries surrounding family planning, their career in the arts should not be one of them.
We are currently looking for mothers who are professional makers to help grow our network. Please follow us on our Instagram page @mothermakers or like our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/mothermakersarehere/
We aim to begin to collaborate on a number of projects with mothers in the future. If you have any ideas for future collabrations do contact us via social media or mothermakersarehere[at]gmail.com.
Our first project seeks to showcasing several mother makers to Munich Jewellery Week 2018. We have launched a crowdfunding campaign to this end. To find out more about us please click here: https://igg.me/at/mothermakers
We have showcased makers such as Beth Legg, Viktoria Muenzker and Julie Usel. Soon to be featured are interviews with the jewellery historian Liesbeth den Besten and other leading voices within jewellery and the wider crafts and design. Mother Makers is co-founded by Laurie Schram and Laura Bradshaw-Heap
