Pewter Casting: The Plunge into Production (4PAM_3)

BOMH Artsmart Conference and hearing a presentation by
Bense Garza, it altered the way I value my ability.
< Primarily, I make and sell jewelry for a living. All of my pieces start out as an illustration, a texture plate is made from that, and I hand work each one into it's final form in metal clay. It's tricky sometimes finding the balance between creating the high end pieces that go for $3000+ and the $85 pieces I make my primary living off of. If I had my druthers, I would spend more time exploring the work that requires 6 months of devotion to actualize. In order to make that happen, I had to consider how I was going to supplement my income to fill in the gaps this would create. Between the advice from
Bense and that desire, I concluded that creating a retail production line was the answer for me. After talking to a few shop owners and distributors, a casted pewter line was not only the most cost effective solution, but also an option that is still financially viable to a larger pool of people. If you've been on the fence about going this route, here's a peak at what this process is like. If it's something you're interested in, my suggestion is to find the right foundry for you. If at all possible, get to know the artists and try to keep it local. This way we can support each other, and make our community a success. Also, protect yourself and copyright your pieces.  Here's a link to the pdf if you'd like to download it:
