THE SOCIETY FOR MIDWEST METALSMITH INSTRUCTOR CALL FOR 2016
The Society of Midwest Metalsmiths (SMM) is seeking instructors for the 2016 workshop schedule. The guild organizes six to seven metalsmithing technique workshops each year for it's members. The funds raised from the workshops sponsor the SMM scholarship program. The guild currently gives three scholarships each year to university level students in metals programs in the Midwest Region.
We are seeking local, regional, and national metals artists who focus on specific techniques that will broaden our memberships metalsmithing skills and knowledge. SMM compensates the artists for their teaching fee, as well as, travel, hotel, and food expenses for the journey to St. Louis, MO. SMM is fortunate to be able to use the metalsmithing studios at Maryville University, St. Louis, or Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in Illinois for the workshops. Both universities have quality metalsmithing studios that can accommodate most metalsmithing techniques. The SMM workshops are weekends only, 9 to 5 on both Saturday and Sunday during the months of March through November.
The SMM website will show the remaining 2015 workshops. We seek a variety of techniques to interest the membership composed of all skill levels. Instructors will be selected by a member committee looking for unique or traditional skills. Learn more about SMM at http://www.midwest-metalsmiths.org/.
