Delving into her artistic practice, it provides an insight in to the various stages that go into making her distinctive pieces. We see Lisa at her wheel throwing chawans (teabowls) and a large tsubo jar; firing and unpacking her kiln; and talking about her influences over the years, in particular her love of the Japanese pot making tradition. Also captured on camera is her technique of spraying the soda solution direct into the firebox over a period of three hours, creating the characteristically rich and varied surfaces of her pots.

Click here to see examples of Lisa's work: http://www.goldmarkart.com/ceramics/p...

Click here to buy a copy of Lisa Hammond's film on DVD: http://www.goldmarkart.com/lisa-hammo...

Biography - After completing a 1 year foundation course and a 3 year diploma in ceramics at Medway College of Art, Lisa Hammond set up her first pottery in 1980. Directed by Vicki Vasilopoulos, the film unravels the mystery of their artistry and reveals how their passionate devotion to their Old World craft is akin to a religion.

Italians Nino Corvato, Joe Centofanti, and Checchino Fonticoli are master tailors who have spent a lifetime perfecting the skills necessary to construct flawless custom-made suits for their clients in New York City, Philadelphia, and Penne, Italy, a fascinating process broken down step-by-step in Men of the Cloth. Now, they fear that their Old World knowledge will vanish with them. Enter Joe Genuardi, a tailoring apprentice who reflects the resurgence of popular interest in artisanal craftsmanship as an alternative to corporate mass production, providing hope for the future of this craft.

Men of the Cloth is structured like a triptych: each character’s story gives us an insight into the past, present, and future of the craft. The whir of the sewing machine, the clank of the steam iron, and the sharp slicing of the tailor’s scissors create an aural symphony. As they go about their daily tasks, they share observations that are, by turns, nostalgic, poignant, and humorous.

Filmed over the course of eleven years, Men of the Cloth is a meditation on the value of handmade clothing. This video is a short trailer.

Running Time: 96 minutes, Blue Ray Honor the Treaties | The Film tag:crafthaus.ning.com,2013-02-01:2104389:Video:392292 2013-02-01T14:05:12.615Z Brigitte Martin https://crafthaus.ning.com/profile/brigittemartin

"We are so numb to things because there is so much white noise.
