For years, German artist Thorsten Brinkmann collected ordinary objects, the rubbish of civilization and everything a city could offer in items that become useless over time and are subsequently and typically thrown away. Thorsten uses these materials for his diverse body of work that rests somewhere between photography, sculpture, performance and installation art.

His photographs explore the subject of still life with a fresh set of eyes. His self-portraits engage in an associative play on art historical references. The artist transforms himself into anonymous sculpture figures that allude to old master compositions, functioning as his own actor, director, and photographer, all-in-one.
