I have found this out a long time ago: To create something meaningful and good, I need QUIET.

I mean absolute quiet.

Probably the tell-tale sign of an introvert, I can't have the radio on in the background, can't have kiddie chatter or dogs barking when I have to concentrate. Sitting in a coffeeshop typing away and getting somewhere is unthinkable to me. Way too distracting. I find myself becoming self-conscious and the peace that I need to get to eludes me.

Don't get me wrong, I love to discuss new ideas with close friends, actually I seek out those conversations specifically because that type of communication helps me spark ideas for future use, but to get to the bottom of an idea, to make that idea a reality, I need to be by myself without any distractions.

In this day and age, QUIET is a luxury.

Brigitte Thank you for inviting me to this group. I have some difficulty in writing English, so I always absent.

But let me cool and I use the translator google chrome, if not screwed out wrong please!

For me just to sit in the banking and inspiration comes soon. I always have my studio full of stuff, caught in them and ideas coming soon. I am only sorry and I feel very sorry for not being able to go to the studio I work: ((realized what I said?)

I like creative music. Progressive or art rock works the best for me. But even if there is no music I still hear it in my head.

I need quiet too! I recently moved studios because of the noisy building site all around my studio. I look onto a garden with a beatiftul tree now and it is bliss! When I'm sketching and trying to think of new ideas I can't work if there are people outside my studio talking in loud voices as I find it really distracting. However, I have often used my shuffle to drown out building site drilling etc. and that works.

I hear you. There are times when I also need absolute quiet. Those times feel like when you are driving to an unknown location and you have to turn off the car radio so you can "hear" where you are going. I enjoy music in my studio but there are many times when I have to turn it off in order to solve a problem and think.

A middle school teacher recently told me that she takes regular long walks by herself, no headphones. She said it helps her to think. Besides the obvious physical benefits, I think this makes perfect sense. I walk my dogs every day and it's somewhat similar. I have to pay attention to what they are doing, of course, but I do get things sorted out in my head as well.
Taking time away from the desk, work bench or the pc is helpful.
