The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

For the third year running, the LOEWE FOUNDATION is proudly sponsoring Collect, the Crafts Council's international art fair for modern craft and design

At the event, we will have a stand in the West Wing of Somerset House, where visitors can learn more about the LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize.

This year, our president Sheila Loewe is introducing Collect 2020's headline talk on Saturday 29 February. Chaired by jury president Anatxu Zabalbeascoa, the talk will see Craft Prize 2019 finalists Giovanni Corvaja and Kazuhito Takadoi in discussion.

Throuhout the fair, signs will be placed at gallery stands that are showing the works of Craft Prize finalists.

Eileen Gatt - Jeweller and Silversmith

CRAFT IN FOCUS

Scottish jewellery designer and silversmith Eileen Gatt has been designing and making jewellery for over 20 years.

Based in the picturesque Black Isle in the Scottish Highlands, Eileen is fascinated by the mystical interaction between people and the sea, and often uses traditional customs and superstitions as starting points for her designs. Her whimsical yet sophisticated creations evoke a sense of nostalgia and allow the wearer to create their own sense of attachment and meaning. Eileen also loves to inject a little humour where possible!

Over the span of her career Eileen has invested her years both in developing her distinctive collections, as well as supporting emerging talent through her time spent teaching at jewellery institutions across the country. In her early career, Eileen won a Royal Academy scholarship to work with Inuit stone carvers in Alaska, an experience which has fuelled her fascination with the Arctic ever since. Having collaborated with storytellers from both Scotland and North America, Eileen continues to draw her inspiration from the Polar wilderness and Inuit culture, Scottish folklore and landscapes, and the small fishing communities found along Scotland’s East Coast.
