is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.
Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.
We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

DCMS has published figures on the number of jobs in the creative industries alongside the value of exports from the UK Creative Industries. The figures show there were 1.9 million jobs in the creative industries and 2.9 million in the creative economy last year. The Crafts Council is working with DCMS officials to improve official figures for craft, currently based on partial estimates. Our report, Measuring the Craft Economy, demonstrates that in total craft is worth £3.4bn to the economy and employs 150,000 people.

Talente was founded in 1980 as international competition for all areas of craft and design. The selected participant can only exhibit once. A participation is only possible until the age of 33 (for the field technique up to 35 years of age). An international jury selects the winners of the "Talente"-Price. The special exhibition is jointly financed by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy and the Bavarian State Ministry for Economics and Media, Energy and Technology.
The aim of Talente is to promote young people with a particular manual talent and to show an interested audience the enormous potential which lies in the new generation in crafts and trades. The works will be the outcome of formal or technical considerations and experiments, showing something new and exceptional.

What is the main function of a curator?
I see my main function as a curator to encourage the artists involved to respond to a brief with total creative freedom. To remove any preconceived ideas of what constitutes jewellery, and to encourage them to step outside their comfort zone and create something new, be it in materials, scale or context.
It is also important to be the stepping-stone between the artists and the venue. For example, if I am curating an exhibition for Manchester Art Gallery, the gallery may know nothing about a particular artist as the gallery is still relatively new in showcasing jewellery. Therefore, it is my job to carry out the wishes of the artist, wherever possible, with the display of their work within any given boundaries. I will have chosen particular artists because I admire and respect their work, it is therefore my responsibility to show it in the context in which it was intended.
It is also important to me that the gallery is happy with the exhibition and it's contents - after all I want them to invite me back!

Artists’ Reception: Friday July 1, 6-8pm
An exhibition documenting the meeting of eight international artists, brought together to work in the Penland studios in the mountains of North Carolina. As a group, the artists were asked to share a word that encapsulated the main concern of their practice. Words were then swapped at random so that each person received a different word, and used it as a part of the inspiration for their new work, by interpreting the ‘concern’ of another group member.
The pieces begun during their Winter Residency at Penland and were finished in studios across the United States as well as in Australia and Denmark, where this diverse group of jewelry artists call home. Shared Concerns is curated by Melissa Cameron and Aran Galligan.

Peter warmly invites you to join him for drinks to celebrate his monumental new sculpture
The One and The Many, Pearson Square, London
The sculpture comprises a 25 tonne, 3.5m high naturally eroded granite boulder inscribed over it’s entire surface with marks carved in low relief representing writing systems from the earliest cuneiform script (active 5,000 years ago in ancient Mesopotamia) to those still in use today. The texts themselves are creation stories from various cultures, each conveyed in their own writing systems.
The sculpture was commissioned by Exemplar, Aviva Investors and Kaupthing, curated by Patrick Morey-Burrows of ArtSource.
