The exhibition will explore the boundaries between art and craft, creating an environment where each are the same and each deal with the idea of a Trace. We’re looking for Contemporary Craft Makers, Visual Artists, Film Makers, Performance Artists, Sound Artists and Text Artists that create work with an idea that there is a Trace – a Trace of something that once belonged, a Trace of something that once happened, a Trace of a suggestion. The title can be taken literally or ambiguously as we invite a variety of ideas and artforms to create a collaboration between artists, ideas and mediums. The brief is open so as to hopefully inspire and conjure recognition in the subject. We welcome all applications.

Criteria: Artists resident in Nottinghamshire or the east Midlands: commission for a new artwork for the Foyer area of the new Humanities Building on University Park, Nottingham. The work should be designed to hang vertically from the ceiling and be visible from at least 2 sides. Applications for 3-dimensional artwork will be considered. The work should reflect, or be influenced by, the academic departments which make up the School of Humanities: Archeology, Art History, Classics, Philosophy and Theology. The work can either be made for the purpose within the timescale available, or it can be an existing work which the University deems appropriate for the installation. The installation is expected to be complete in September.

May Update From Craft In Focus

Dear Designer Maker/Artist We are now back in the office following our successful event at RHS Garden Wisley.  The week before our event we were faced with extreme weather conditions following the highest rainfall Wisley had seen for quite some time. To see the ground conditions we were faced with have a look at our Facebook album here: We were determined to continue with the event and pulled out all the stops to ensure the event went ahead. This meant relocating two of the marquees and raising the floors above the water level.  We are grateful to the RHS, our exhibitors and contractors for their flexibility and patience. The event opened on time on Thursday 3 May and continued through to the Bank Holiday Monday.  We don't think any of the visitors had any idea of the conditions on site the week before.  All our marquees were floored and we provided walkways between the paths at Wisley and the marquees meaning no one went home with wet feet! To see some of the images from the show have a look at our Facebook album here: Stop Press  We have one space now re-available within our marquees at our next event at Henley on Thames which takes place from 22-24 June.  We can also accommodate exhibitors interested in outside space for exhibiting sculpture, garden art, etc and those that may be able to run a workshop or interesting demonstration for visitors.  Please contact us for further details.
