Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

Somerset House Studios is a new experimental workspace in the centre of London connecting artists, makers and thinkers with audiences. The Studios are a platform for the development of new creative projects and collaboration, promoting work that pushes bold ideas, engages with urgent issues and pioneers new technologies.

Over 100 resident artists will be supported to develop their practice inside the refurbished spaces of the former Inland Revenue building, responding to the changing ways in which artists are working and the acute rent increases in the capital. The Studios are also home to Makerversity and a number of groups working with critical design and emerging technologies - collectively a dynamic community of over 300 artists, makers and thinkers.

In addition, Somerset House Studios works with a small number of Associate Artists to develop specific projects and ideas for the public programme. Associates are by invitation only.

Somerset House Studios builds on the success of recent projects such as PJ Harvey: Recording In Progress, Big Bang Data and Björk Digital in redefining the cultural centre as a place where cross-disciplinary work is imagined, made and presented.

Applications are now open to recruit up to 25 new artist residents to join the community. Artists may apply to occupy a studio for a fixed period, with rents capped by Somerset House in order to keep them low. The Studios will also offer residents a growing programme of development, employment and commissioning opportunities, alongside the opportunity to present work within its curated public programme. Apply now.

ndiana University Bloomington
Deadline: January 27th, 2017

=========================================================

The School of Art and Design at Indiana University Bloomington invites applications for a 4-6 week Fall 2017 McKinney International Art and Design Residency. The residency will select an established artists whose primary country of residency is outside of the United States. Approximate dates for Fall 2017 are September 4th through December 15th.
Applicants should be actively engaged in contemporary artistic practice and show evidence of a national and international exhibition record. Applications from practitioners of studio disciplines, as well as criticism, are welcome.
The Artist-in-Residence is selected based on the merits of their professional careers, their dedication in being part of an academic environment and their plan to develop and expand on their creative process based on facilities and access to the unique collections and research specialties available at IU. The successful applicants will remain in residence throughout the tenure of their session. Selected applicants will be featured as part of the McKinney Visiting Artist Lecture Series. In addition, prospective residents will coordinate with the School of Art and Design to offer studio visits, open studios and a workshop based on technical/conceptual innovations.
Indiana University Bloomington is the flagship campus of IU’s eight campuses statewide. Innovation, creativity, and academic freedom are hallmarks of our world-class contributions in research and in the arts. Just 50 miles southwest of Indianapolis with over 40,000 students, the University of Indiana Bloomington is the arts and cultural hub of the Midwest. While IU's amazing arts and entertainment offerings play a large role in the city's cultural atmosphere, Bloomington is extraordinary in its own right. Bloomington residents and IU students, faculty, and staff form a vibrant, active community that benefits from the metropolitan qualities of a large city and the easy pace of a small town.
The Department of Studio Art, founded in 1895, is one of the premier art schools in the country. The School offers graduate and undergraduate degrees in Studio Art. Studio areas include ceramics, drawing and painting, graphic design, metalsmithing and jewelry design, digital media/computer arts, photography, textiles, printmaking, and sculpture.

Studio space, lodging and a $4,000 USD honorarium will be provided for each position. The program will reimburse travel up to $2000. Other studio expenses will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
To apply, submit a cover letter, CV, 500 word proposal, portfolio of ten images of recent work (artists) or 2 writing samples (critics/writers). Please specify in your proposal your availability for dates, and interest in IU’s studio and research facilities and how this would best support your studio practice.

Applications should be Uploaded to SLIDEROOM.

A call for wearable objects that conceal and reveal on the runway!

Accepting drawings and design concepts as well as images of completed pieces. You DO NOT have to have your piece completed to enter!

It’s a classic occurrence on the runway. The model walks to one end and does something as simple as taking a layer off, such as a jacket, or as complicated as untying a few holds and showing something completely new and unexpected.

For 2017’s Exhibition in Motion we are looking for large-scale wearable pieces that incorporate an element of transformation. The wearer must be able to perform the transformation on the runway with little to no assistance and be as smooth as possible. Pieces can be singular or segments can be removed and left at a drop off point along the runway. Transformations must be as smooth as possible.

Building on the success of 2016, we are looking for large-scale work that will stand out on the runway – think in feet not inches!

Partners, small groups and class proposals are encouraged.

Collect Talks

Challenging what and how we think about craft, Collect talks aim to encourage visitors to view the objects on show from a new perspective.

The programme will span a wealth of topics from the worlds of craft, architecture, fashion, art, design and interiors and the roles they play in enriching the world around us. Join us to rethink traditional materials and celebrate the individual maker - understanding how their passion can inspire the next generation.

Speakers include designers Fiona Barratt Campbell, Sebastian Cox; curators Antonio Boström (V&A), Brian Kennedy (independent), Sara Matson (Tate St Ives); gallerist Sarah Myerscough; educationalist Henry Ward (Freelands Foundation). Talks are free to attend and run from Friday to Monday.
