is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.
Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.
We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

Authentic, centuries old, village smithy restored and brought back to life.
Centrally situated in the village of Mawnan Smith, Falmouth, Cornwall. Close to Trebah and Glendurgan Gardens, five minutes from the Helford River and 3 miles from the working harbour town of Falmouth,a much visited tourist destination. On a complex with 3 other working studios where craft workers create a range of distinctive, high quality products and bespoke designs.
The Old Smithy is now available for rent.
A rare opportunity to acquire a well equipped fully functional working Smithy with all the basic equipment required to be up and running from day one. It comes equipped with a fully restored Blacker power hammer and anvil, pedestal drill a renovated cob earth floor and all basic smithy tools.

MAWNAN ANVIL TRUST HISTORIC SMITHY TO LET
Applications are invited for the tenancy of the historic smithy in the village of Mawnan Smith, near Falmouth, Cornwall. Details of the smithy are set out below.
SITE In the centre of the village, 50 metres from the cross roads and the Red Lion pub. The Smithy is the largest of four craft units around a central courtyard with direct access to the road.
BUILDING A listed building of traditional construction i.e. stone and cob, with a slate tiled roof. The smithy was restored from a state of semi-dereliction in 2007 and a traditional earthen floor was
reinstated in 2009. The internal floor area is 45 sq.metres and the dimensions are 8.7m x 5.2 m. with an internal ridge ht. of 4.5 m. The building is of historic and architectural significance with a grade II listing.
EQUIPMENT The smithy has an extensive range of traditional equipment including a forge, a Blacker belt-driven power hammer, a pedestal drill, a horizontal hacksaw, tuyeres, assorted tools, punches, wrenches,etc., giving the incoming tenant an opportunity to begin work immediately.
LOCAL AREA Mawnan Smith is a large village (pop.1,500 approx ) with a strong tourist attraction based on the two world-renowned gardens of Trebah and Glendurgan, the Helford Passage and two top quality hotels. The area is officially designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
RENT From £165 monthly, payable in advance. An initial rent-free period may be negotiated. The tenant will be required to sign an annual licence agreement with easy in/out terms to encourage business start-ups.
RATES At present, no business rates are payable under the Small Business Rate Relief Scheme. The Trust understands that the scheme which is due to expire on 31st. March, 2014 is due to be renewed for another year.
SERVICES The tenant pays for all electricity used on site. There is no gas supply in the village. Water is supplied free of charge by the Trust.

Call for Entries - ACJ Members' Exhibition 2014 - ICONS
ICONS - jewellery for the famous and infamous, pieces reflecting cultural & design icons
This will allow people to use such design icons as the mini, anglepoise lamp or other iconic objects as inspiration, or design a piece for a movie star, rock star or similar. It is a theme which could be interpreted in many ways, and we encourage you to think around the subject.
Venue: National Centre for Craft & Design, Sleaford, Lincolnshire 17th May – 27th July 2014
Panel: Professor Jack Cunningham will chair the panel of distinguished jewellery professionals.
Criteria:
1. The work must be in some way tied to the theme.
2. You may submit one proposal with up to three related pieces.
3. The pieces MUST be wearable in some fashion to adorn the body; we encourage you to explore the full definitions of "wearable", and further explore and push those boundaries.
4. The use of precious metals is not mandatory, you may use a wide range of materials
5. A high quality of design and making are essential for selection. The Panel will be considering pieces for a major exposition of what contemporary jewellery is in 2014.
6. Work may be specially made, or may be a related piece from your existing body of work. Images submitted can be photographs, or a clear sketch of your proposal.
Application & images:
Use the application form. Up to three related pieces can be submitted. One or maximum two images for each proposed piece (either photo or sketch) should be sent, in the format required: 300 dpi jpg format ONLY, physical size 12cm the longest side , MAXIMUM file size 1Mb - larger files will be rejected. These can be sent by email to projects@acj.org.uk with the application form. You should also attach four images of your previous work.

Timescale
Submissions may be sent from now until the deadline: Sunday 9th February 2014
The Panel will meet in mid February; notification of participation will be emailed shortly after this.
Finished pieces to be delivered by Saturday 12th April for photography.
Exhibition open 17th May to 27th July 2014
It is possible that the exhibition may tour, but this is not yet confirmed.
Publicity
We will publish a catalogue of the exhibition, and will advertise on our website, other web channels and some press. NCCD will also publicise this exhibition in their brochure and other channels
Cost
The submission fee is £15 for up to three pieces proposed. You will pay for delivery of the work. All other costs for the show are covered. However, if ACJ is successful in securing further venues there may be a fee payable to contribute to transport, insurance and mounting costs. This would not exceed £50 in total and will hopefully be less.
Participation in touring will be optional (but we hope to tour as many pieces as possible)
