The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

Pamela Rawnsley

Pamela’s work as both a silversmith and jeweler has always been informed by the landscape. She has focused on the area around her home in the Brecon Beacons, making close observations of the shape- shifting light and weather. In 2012 she received a Creative Wales Ambassador Award which led to a residency in Australia. The extraordinary and strange landscapes there have resulted in her seeing the landscape anew, with the colours, textures, and flora of South Australia forming the core of her new work.

Opening of a Second Fisherton Mill gallery shop in Wilton Shopping Village’s fabulous historic courtyard. The new shop is situated in, appropriately enough, a seventeenth century grain mill which is the courtyard’s oldest building. This new venture will be followed in January with the unveiling of 5 studio workshops featuring artists at work, together with a new Fisherton Mill Cafe.

Wilton Shopping Village is in the early stages of a planned new direction for the Historic Courtyard and we hope that Fisherton Mill can help catalyse that re-generation.

This second Fisherton Mill location will offer a different selection of work although there will be some crossover so that our most popular artists have the opportunity to display in both Salisbury and Wilton. There will be a diverse range by artists working in many mediums - painters, potters, jewellers, ceramicists, fashionistas and much more. The Wilton gallery will also have a focus on interior products, linking in with the adjacent Wilton Carpet and Firegarden showrooms.

The five new studio workshops we hope will help us satisfy demand for space we can’t always fulfil in Salisbury. We are pleased to say that one of the spaces has been reserved already! Please do get in touch if you would like to be considered – further details below.

We will keep you posted as our plans progress and we intend to start adding some images to Facebook to give a taste of what is to come so ‘like’ our page to keep up to date.

Comment by Rebecca Skeels on October 25, 2013 at 9:08am: Just a reminder that tomorrow we are holding a special fundraising event at Making Space from 2pm-4pm to launch our Postcard Exhibition and give you the opportunity to view and buy new and original artwork before it goes on sale to the public on Monday (28 October).

Artists and designers from Hampshire and beyond have donated work to the Postcard Exhibition and all proceeds will go towards supporting Making Space to continue its valued outreach across the county. Each piece of 4’ x 6” art on display will be available for a set price of £20 – but you won’t know who the artist is until you have bought it!

Please see the attached invitation for more information about this exciting launch event – tickets are £5 (free to contributing artists). We do hope you will be able to join us.

Dazzle will be making a short move down the South Bank into the iconic Oxo Tower Wharf, transforming into Dazzle@oxo...

Up until this year Dazzle, the UK's largest selling contemporary jewellery exhibition, has called the National Theatre their London home. In 2013 they will be showcasing over 50 jewellery designers from 22 countries and selling 3000 unique handmade pieces right here in our gallery@oxo.

Along with established jewellery designers such as Gail Klevan and Jane Adam and our very own Josef Koppmann, Dazzle will be introducing 12 new young designers. Graduate Kelly Munro will be bringing her wonderful statement pieces, using branded wood, knotted rubber and intricately saw pierced metal, each inspired by the north Scottish coastline. While fellow emerging designer, Chris Boland, will be bringing his strong bold designs using semi-precious stones.

For 32 years, Dazzle has provided a much anticipated insight into all that is happening in contemporary jewellery. The showcase is a place to find both internationally collected names and to discover new talent, hand picked from graduate shows by the Dazzle team. Don't miss out on viewing (and buying) these wearable works of art on display in the gallery@oxo throughout November and the festive season.

With the price of gold still somewhat erratic at the moment, now is the ideal time to find out how to avoid the many pitfalls that can arise when buying scrap metal.

The course, run as a small intimate group, covers the Hallmarking Act and other legal requirements, hands on identification of genuine UK hallmarks, counterfeit, faked and forged hallmarks and counterfeit gold coins, watches, cutlery and flatware. You will also be trained on methods of assaying, including the touch test and acid testing.
This day-long seminar includes a light lunch and a rare opportunity to see inside a working assay office with an exclusive tour of the marking floor and laboratory.
