The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

CinBA call for contemporary makers
Deadline: 30 March 2012

The CinBA project invites expressions of interest from contemporary makers to become part of an international, interdisciplinary research project. This is a unique opportunity to engage with and reinterpret materials and objects from the very origins of craft production, whilst broadening networks within and beyond the contemporary craft community.

Creativity and Craft Production in the Middle and Late Bronze Age (CinBA) is a major three year HERA-funded project led by Dr Jo Sofaer at the University of Southampton. CinBA partners are University of Cambridge, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (Trondheim, Norway), The Archaeological Museum - Zagreb (Croatia), National Museum of Denmark (Copenhagen, Denmark), Natural History Museum Vienna (Austria), Lands of Legends Archaeological Park Lejre (Denmark), and the Crafts Council.

The project provides opportunities for makers to explore the role that the contemporary craft maker can play in archaeological enquiry, bringing material expertise and creative skills. The research is structured around four themes - the qualities of materials; motifs and skills; spatial and temporal trends; and the perception of prehistoric craft today. We are calling for makers at any career stage and working in any contemporary craft discipline, who have an innovative approach to their practice and are intrigued by the ancient past or archaeology.

THE GREAT NORTHERN CONTEMPORARY CRAFT FAIR AT SPINNINGFIELDS 2012

We are pleased to announce the new date for this years show will be the 4-7th of October 2012. As Origin: The London Craft Fair wont be happening this year we are taking the opportunity to move forward away from the half term week and believe this will result in an increase in visitor numbers. DATE : 4-7th  October 2012

VENUE:  The Pavilion, Hardman Boulevard, Spinningfields, Manchester, M3 3AQ

This year we will be moving to an on-line application process and because of this we have had to delay the call for entries until the 1st of April.   COLLECT, the prestigious international art fair returns to the Saatchi Gallery in London this May.  Following the high profile success of Crafts magazine’s COLLECT Show Guide in 2011, we are producing the Guide again this year.

I am sharing this information with you in advance so that you have time to consider it and include it in your marketing plans for the summer.

Email chollingshead@publishingmatters.co.uk or
+44(0)1395 576 829 for more information.

For events and exhibitions taking place during or after COLLECT, this is the perfect opportunity to attract the attention of the world’s collectors, enthusiasts and designer-makers in the world of contemporary applied art.

I'll be happy to discuss a special print and online campaign package that includes Crafts magazine, the COLLECT Show Guide and a banner on our website. www.craftsmagazine.org.uk

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,
Charlotte Hollingshead
