The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

Quarto Publishing is currently working on a book presentation about metal patination, a practical guide for jewellers and sculptors. We are a practical art and craft publisher based in London. Quarto Publishing is responsible for some of the best illustrated practical jewellery books published internationally. Please check us out on www.quarto.com for more information.

As mentioned this book is in its very early stages (Matt Runfola is the author and we are in the process of developing the book's content with him). The book will contain: techniques, recipes and sample swatches. In addition, techniques/recipes will be shown in the context of finished examples of jewellery and sculptural works.

We are currently looking for pictures of finished examples to use in the development of this book, and - ultimately - in the actual book. If this is a technique you use and if you're interested in submitting a selection of images for us to consider, then I would love to hear from you. Our only requirements at this stage are that the pictures are high res and, in due course, answer a couple of questions to help write the caption (what inspired the piece; what appeals to you about the art patination and so on).

Comment by Rebecca Skeels on February 23, 2012 at 7:27am: Newly formed British jewellery collective seeks members to take part in an application for a group selling exhibition at SIERAAD International Jewellery Art Fair, Amsterdam, 1 – 4 November 2012.www.sieraadartfair.com

We are looking for eight jewellers, who are based in the U.K. to share the space costing €500 each plus VAT. If our collective is selected by SIERAAD there will be a non-refundable deposit of €150 to secure your space, with the remaining balance payable later in the year.

We would love all participants to attend the fair, but recognise that this is not always possible; therefore we are offering two options,
Option A
If you are able to attend the show, the total cost will be simply your portion of the stand.
Option B
If you are unable to attend, we ask for the cost of the stand, and for every item sold/commission taken, a small fee of 10% of the cost of the item will be deducted- to cover the additional costs of setting up and manning your work over the duration of the show.

The deadline for the collective selection is the 5 March.

We are pleased to announce a new area for the marquees for our Christmas Fair at RHS Gardens Wisley.

News Update For Craft in Focus at RHS Wisley Gardens 21 - 25 November

This year the event will be held within two temporary hard walled pavilions. For those familiar with the garden, we are using the north end of Seven Acres Lawn, and the new event lawn within the garden. The entrances to both of these will be within 50m of the conservatory restaurant so keeping everything central. (This is similar to the area used for our spring event)

Few programs exist either on the national or international level where the sole mission is to support the creativity of artists. From the beginning, the art-making process has been the highest priority at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, where both the atmosphere and environment offer ideal situations for creative growth and experimentation. Artists from around the world come to the Bemis Center to work in this supportive community and confront new challenges. Residency: January 2013 - June 2013.

The program will bring together four residents (artists, scholars, activists, and practitioners) for research-based projects that explore and extend social change themes. Participants will gain exposure to policies, practices, and politics while exploring transformative social imaginations and strategies. The rapidly changing urban and institutional landscape of Washington DC will serve as a platform, model, and resource to propose and prepare social futures. Participants will pursue research and action-based projects that explore the residency topic.
