Project 1: “Manifesting Judaic Symbology” (Massachusetts)

Project 1 Title:

“Manifesting Judaic Symbology”

Project Description:
a) Outline of project, purpose/goal
It is the intention of this project to explore, through my jewels, their relationship to my understanding of the symbology of Judaism. The complete project involves the production of five jewels plus enclosures, but the goal of this submission is to secure funding assistance for one of the pieces.

In recent years I have become increasingly interested in pursuing a course of investigation into how my Judaism has influenced my art work and how the symbology of my religious heritage and culture can be incorporated into my work.

Through this project, I plan to establish a deeper and more conscious alliance between my work as a studio jeweler and an understanding of common and/or esoteric Judaic symbology, resulting in a body of work which will be exhibited in 2012 at three or more venues (three venues have already committed to this exhibition).

In the course of completing this project, I will be doing extensive research into the meaning of select Judaic objects and symbols. This research will culminate in a melding of my jewels with the richness of these objects and symbols, and in very explicit applications, will become a path to disclosing my own connections to the mystery that has consistently infused my work.

b) Project Timeline
January 2011- September 2012

c) Location of project
Part One, The Creation of the Jewels: The pieces will be produced in my studio in Massachusetts
Part Two, The Committed Exhibitions: The Berkshire Museum, Gallery in the Woods, Blue Heron Gallery

d) Requested funding amount $400.00
This is an estimate that includes the cost of the materials, plus labour (at minimum wage, US)
