Spaudlers (or spaulders) were a solution for protecting the shoulders. Spaudlers began use in the early 14th century during the Transitional Period of plate armour. This particular design is based on the 1376 burial effigy of England’s Edward, Prince of Wales in Canterbury Cathedral.
The upper shoulder is 16 ga. mild steel and the lower lames are 18 ga. with a reenforced rolled edge. The plates articulate along 8 oz. vegetable tanned leather strips. The upper portion of the plate is pointed to a 5 oz. leather tab while the lower portion is buckled using 8 oz. leather straps.
