“Jousting Helm for a Newborn” is a piece that elaborates on the protective instinct that parents have in regards to their children and how that same instinct can, when taken to extremes, backfire and prove to be harmful to the child. The design of the helmet is modified off of the Pembridge Helm to fit the measurements of a pre-mature human infant. The immediate reaction to the piece is that if one were to actually place this helmet onto an infant’s head, the ridged and suffocating nature of the helmet could result in injuring the child, thus negating the helmet’s initial protective intent.
