Blight - World Hunger is one piece in a series the 10 Modern Plagues. While there has always been hunger, I consider it a modern plague because world food production, right now has the ability to feed and transport food to the world, yet people still suffer from hunger.
Even right here in the United States people suffer from hunger. In urban center there are food deserts where it is impossible to buy healthy food. At the same time there is the amazing and painful irony that we are killing ourselves with a shorter lifespan from obesity.
