"This Land is My Land, This Land is Your Land" (2010)

The morion was a type of open helmet used during the 16th and 17th centuries, typically featuring a brim and traversing crest. Although generally associated with Spanish Conquistadors, the morion was common among foot solders across Europe. Inexpensive production costs encouraged its popularity and use, although officers and other elite units would have had the surface elaborately engraved to display their wealth and status. The crest or comb on the top of the helmet was designed to strengthen it. Later versions also had cheek guards and even removable faceplates to protect the soldier from sword cuts. This reconstruction is based upon a later version featuring a promenant crest, curved brim and articulated cheek guards. Made of 16 ga. mild steel, the interior has an integral linen liner.
