Peascod breastplates grew out of European late 16th century fashion that accentuated a pointed profile at the base of the abdomen. This style translated well into the defensive needs of armour. The cross-section of these styles of breastplate are actually in the shape of a Gothic arch. The result is a very strong design capable of withstanding shock that is relatively easier to produce. The peascod breastplate was designed to be modular and was seen in use by both rich nobility and poor foot soldiers alike. Made of 14 ga. mild steel, this breastplate is actually a work in progress that will eventually be a full suit of 17th century field armour.
