My project aims to re-design the way we consume fashion.
Around 487,500 tonnes of textile waste goes into land fill every year due to the ever-expanding fast fashion market. This growing trade is having detrimental effects on the environment. This harmful spiral of our throwaway culture cannot continue indefinitely as it is simply not sustainable.
I hope to produce a design model of an alternate method of printing so that images and colour can be interchangeable and be temporarily fixed onto the cloth. These images will fade over a short period of time leaving the garment as a blank canvas so that it can be re-used again and again sporting many different looks. This aims to revolutionise the way we consume our fashions and will attempt to reaffirm a connection to our garments by personalising the experience. Energy/waste outputs at all stages will be reduced, fewer better quality items will be required, lengthening the life of an item by giving it chameleon capabilities.
