What's New? Aug 3 Newsletter

Art and craft education benefits absolutely everybody and especially those that don't do well in standardized environments or have been through personal turmoil. The Art Room employs senior art/craft practitioners who are trained in psychotherapy, art, teaching, drama therapy, film making, and social work. What a wonderful way to share the benefits of making. Also, HRH The Duchess of Cambridge is a Patron to the group which I am sure is a great benefit. I wonder who would be a good patron/spokesperson in the US/Canada to bring endeavors like these and the topic itself into the mainstream?

Manipulated Algorithm Produces Psychedelic Abstractions

Last month, Google revealed that it had found a surprising new use for its image-recognition software. The company's software engineers are tweaking the algorithm using a method dubbed "Deep Dream," which has produced a kaleidoscopic new genre of computer-art characterized by dreamy pagodas, haunting animal faces and electric-acid colour splotches. Whether or not this actually counts as "art" is a topic of debate, but that hasn't stopped Deep Dream from dominating the internet since its source code was made public a few weeks ago.

Summer Holidays

By The Justified Sinner

Such a lot going on and I've not posted again for two weeks. SO, since my last post, summer has been an intermittent affair of hot sun and cold rain and the last week or so, the weather has turned decidedly cool. On one of those cool days, I got to catch up with my friend and journalist and sometime Sci-fi/Horror writer, Michael Logan, which was great fun. Even though it was every bit as cold and windy as this looks!

Make art, not...

A couple of things that are in perfect alignment with current area of research have recently just fallen into my lap. They are sensitive and intimate and multifaceted and beautiful, and I want to share them.

This Batman Motel Room is the Batmanniest

Just came across this image of a Batman-themed motel room and, as always, when I see things like that two thoughts cross my mind immediately. Firstly, which genius put this room together and made it happen, as in: whose wonderful craftsmanship is at work here? Secondly, when will we see a hotel/motel/guesthouse completely dedicated to craftsmanship - period?
