Visiting Lillstreet Art Center, Chicago with Garth Johnson

The incredibly entertaining Garth Johnson (fellow crafthaus member, NCECA Board of Directors) was in Chicago this week and I took him on a 3-hour tour of the Lillstreet Art Center, always a great place to visit with out-of-towners!

PS: Wherever you travel and visit, feel free to take your own images and blog your experiences on crafthaus any time!

I love the curatorial practice at The Scottish Gallery, where the primary concern appears to be craftsmanship.

Katherine Richmond - The Chaos of Memories and The Order of Objects

"Our world is in a constant state of flux; we are forced to establish tangible markers of change to help shape the construction of our memories and to do so we collect objects, such as letters, photographs, and souvenirs. We can control our possessions in a way that little else can be controlled, offering us a sense of stability in a world of change."

Pimpisa Tinpalit - Fiberglass Sculpture

I Was a Stranger, 2013
Size: 60 x 55 x 65 cm
Medium: Fiberglass

A childlike sense of wonder animates Pimpisa Tinpalit’s sculptures. “I sculpt every day,” she says, “and am always excited to find new methods.” That constant search for the new is found in the unexpected combinations that form the basis of her pieces, from the mix of colors and textures to the role that written language and found objects play.
