NY Times - When Profits Can Become Sawdust

The artist's dilemma spelled out: "Designing a sublime piece of wood furniture was an achievement. But at the end of 40 hours, Mr. McGlasson had managed something even rarer. At $85 an hour for labor and $250 in materials, he’d lost $3,650 on a $1,600 chair."

Making a Scene - MAD, NY

Join MAD for the upcoming series Making a Scene: Objects for Performance. Exploring the role of objects in performance today, Making a Scene will reveal the often undocumented creative process of collaborations between performers and makers. Over the next four months, artists and designers will construct props, costumes, instruments and art objects in MAD's Artist Studios that will then be used in three evenings of live performances.

Comments – Opening Tonight

Posted by Melissa Cameron

The Comments exhibition opens at Gaffa Gallery in Sydney tonight! Head along to see the work by an amazing* group of artists, and see the work I made out of the non-stick tartlet pan (above) that I bought off Amazon earlier this year. Yes, I’ve been making works out of new stuff. Why? Well, that’s what my works in the exhibition will (hopefully) reveal.

Adam Thorpe: Flowering at Velvet da Vinci

Adam Thorpe’s Flowering, a 25ft installation on the gallery’s atrium wall, draws inspiration from the roadside memorial, where flowers are placed on a chain-link fence.  Working with basswood (Tilia americana), hand tools, chisels, and gouges, the artist has carved an intricate series of wilted blossoms and flowers in full bloom, each unique in its own ornate and commemorative nature.

Kurt Perschke - The Redball Project

Public art is sometimes nondescript and more apt to delight the discerning few than the masses. Notable exceptions can be found every so often, and when they occur they cause quite a splash.

Anita Larkin - Improbable Objects

Anita Larkin: I am an artist who makes sculpture from found objects and felted fibers, as well as sometimes casting in bronze. I have experience in working on public art commissions, as well as making works for private clients. A professional artist since graduating from Sydney College of The Arts in 1993, I regularly exhibit my work in Australia and internationally, and am represented by Defiance Gallery in Sydney. I also teach workshops in feltmaking and making sculpture from found objects.
